Die Eröffnung der Ausstellung »Geoffrey Bawa. Architektur für die Sinne« beginnt mit einem Gespräch in der Fire Station von Zaha Hadid. Gemeinsam diskutieren ExpertInnen über Geoffrey Bawas Werk, seine anhaltende Relevanz und die Impulse, die sich daraus für Architektur und Design der Gegenwart ableiten lassen. Auf dem Podium sprechen Channa Daswatte, Vorsitzender des Geoffrey Bawa Trust, und Shayari de Silva, Co-Kuratorin der Ausstellung, sowie Suhanya Raffel, Direktorin des Museums M+ in Hongkong, und Ikko Yokoyama, Co-Kuratorin der Ausstellung. Moderiert wird die Diskussion von Johan Deurell, Co-Kurator der Ausstellung am Vitra Design Museum. Ausgehend von der Ausstellung und der begleitenden Publikation beleuchten die PodiumsteilnehmerInnen die Bedeutung von Nachhaltigkeit und kultureller Sensibilität in Bawas Werk. Darüber hinaus thematisieren sie seine enge Zusammenarbeit mit KünstlerInnen und KunsthandwerkerInnen sowie seine prägende Rolle im postkolonialen Sri Lanka.
Im Anschluss findet die Vernissage der Ausstellung statt.

The opening night of the exhibition »Geoffrey Bawa: Architecture for the Senses« begins with an opening talk at the Zaha Hadid Fire Station, bringing together experts to discuss Bawa’s work, its enduring relevance, and the lessons it offers for contemporary architecture and design. The panelists are Geoffrey Bawa Trust’s Channa Dawatte, Chairperson, and Shayari de Silva, co-curator of the exhibition, and M+’s Suhanya Raffel, Director, and Ikko Yokoyama, co-curator of the exhibition. The talk will be moderated by Vitra Design Museum’s Johan Deurell, co-curator of the exhibition. Drawing on the exhibition and the accompanying publication, the panelists will discuss the role of sustainability and cultural sensitivity in Bawa’s work, as well as his close collaboration with contemporary artists and craftspeople, and his central role in post-colonial Sri Lanka.
The talk will be followed by the exhibition vernissage.
