Auf der ganzen Welt würden uns das ikonische Make-up und der fantasievolle Ornat auffallen, und wir würden beides sofort mit diesem besonderen Orden assoziieren: den Schwestern der Perpetuellen Indulgenz. Dabei geht es um mehr als nur Travestie: um Community, darum, Gutes zu tun und Freude und Hoffnung in die Welt zu tragen. Wie das Ganze begann, wer Schwester Roma ist und welche bitteren Jahre auf die Gründung 1979 in San Francisco folgten, bringt uns diese – quasi direkt durch den Regenbogen gedrehte – herzinnige Dokumentation näher. Und dann ist da noch eine österliche Tradition, die es bisher leider nicht über den Ozean geschafft hat: die Wahl von Hunky Jesus und Foxy Mary. Wer möchte da nicht religiös werden?
All over the world, the iconic make-up with its imaginative regalia is immediately associated with the Order of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Yet the Sisters are more than just about drag. The Order is about community, doing good, and bringing joy and hope to the world. This heartfelt documentary – shot, as it were, straight through the rainbow – gives us an insight into how it all began, who Sister Roma is, and the difficult years that followed the group’s founding in San Francisco in 1979. And then there’s an Easter tradition that, sadly, hasn’t yet made it across the ocean: the election of Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary. Who wouldn’t want to become religious after that?
