Ulrike Ottinger kehrt auf die große Leinwand zurück und verbindet Vampirmythos, Historienfantasie und Satire zu einem eigenwilligen Werk. Dabei entsteht in Zusammenarbeit mit Elfriede Jelinek ein Film, der lustvoll mit Motiven aus Popkultur, Theater und Literatur spielt und klassische Genregrenzen bewusst überschreitet. Im Zentrum stehen die Blutgräfin (Isabelle Huppert) und ihre Zofe (Birgit Minichmayr), die in Wien einen neuen Tanz der Vampire eröffnen. Auf ihrer Jagd nach dem roten Lebenssaft, der verschütteten Geschichte ihrer Ahnen und einem Buch, das ihr Vampirreich zu zerstören droht, entfaltet sich ein groteskes Spiel um Macht, Erinnerung und
Unsterblichkeit.
Ulrike Ottinger returns to the big screen, blending vampire mythology, historical fantasy and satire into a highly original cinematic work. In collaboration with Elfriede Jelinek, she has created a film that playfully engages with motifs from pop culture, theatre and literature, whilst deliberately transcending traditional genre boundaries. At the centre of the story are the Blood Countess (Isabelle Huppert) and her maid (Birgit Minichmayr), who launch a new ‘Dance of the Vampires’ in Vienna. As they hunt for the red elixir of life, the buried history of their ancestors and a book that threatens to destroy their vampire realm, a grotesque game of power, memory and immortality unfolds.
